Annual Club Barbeque held 7th August 2016
Firstly thank you to those who helped set up the event and pack everything away again at the end. Events such as this take a lot of arranging, that most don’t see. Brian Cobb organised the food and drink for our guests. Bob Taylor, Paul, Ron, Alan McChesney, Shaun and Gaz arrived early and helped prepare everything, putting up the marquees, moving the tables and chairs out, cutting the strip, setting up the BBQ etc. and then putting everything away again at the end of the day. Thanks also to Ron who prepared the barbecue and to Shaun for the loan of the 2 large gazebos. Finally, thanks also to Brian Cobb’s wife Julia for helping look after our guests.
The weather was mainly sunny and very warm and we had some blue sky but the wind was a fairly strong South Westerly. Fortunately most people braved the wind and there were planes in the air throughout the day with some lovely models strutting their stuff. Shaun was an exhibition in himself with a wonderful selection of large models.
A raffle was run including a prize donated by our Landlord Andrew and his wife Hiliary, for which we were very grateful. Ron Large and Brian Cobb also donated prizes for the raffle which were very welcome. The raffle made £60 to boost club funds.
General flying took place throughout the day and we gave one of our guests a couple of flights using a buddy box (which I am told gave some entertainment for those watching). The turn out was excellent with the pits filled to bursting point and requiring parking on the hard standing and overflowing to the field beside the hangar – everyone appeared to have a good day.
Thanks to John Robinson for the photos he took below.
