Hi all, I have a Pilot QB kit to put together over the coming months (work permitting – mad time to be working in online learning). The engine mount is one of those black plastic/nylon jobbies. I think i read somewhere that people drill a pilot hole and then use self tappers to fix to motor to the mount, is this safe? My instinct would be to use 3mm bolts, washers and lock nuts.

After many years in engineering I would never use self tappers if I could use bolts.

Your instincts are correct! Don’t trust self tappers

What I do is drill and tap the engine mount and bolt the engine to the mount using the tapped holes and cap head bolts then put a nyloc nut on as an extra security measure.

Thanks all, I’ll dig out my 3mm taps.
