11th September 2022

A group of WMF members have laboured over the summer to upgrade the leaking hangar roof. The existing roof had failed in several places and was in danger of causing a bucket shortage. Despite delays caused by searing temperatures the new roof is now complete. A big thank you to all who took part, these improvements should improve run-off and keep the hangar watertight for many more years.

Chairman’s Trophy

This year the Chairman’s Trophy was awarded jointly to Peter Simpson and Malcolm Dearing for organising the cleaning of the hangar after lockdown. It was good to see so many members turn up on the ‘clean up’ weekend and get stuck in.

The second ‘Chairman’s Trophy’ in the form of the Bob Chevis Memorial Trophy was awarded jointly to Paul Orris and Ron Large for organising the repair of the patio decking.

Ground Maintenance

Bob Herbert and Paul Morris have done a grand job maintaining the field in an excellent condition – many thanks to them. They were each presented with a bottle of wine in appreciation of their efforts.

Subscriptions for 2022

Members can pay their BMFA fees directly through the BMFA portal on their website if they wish to do so, or they can pay them with their WMF fees through the club. If members have previously paid their CAA fee through the BMFA they can continue to do so.

Replacement of the decking outside the hangar is now complete. The covered area is now open for members to use.

In line with the new legislation and BMFA advice, the committee has decided to put the flying site into lockdown again and all flying must stop with immediate effect. The flying site will remain in lockdown until further notice.

Due to Covid-19 the Club Flying Field was closed to all members in March, reopening in May under a booking system administered by Roger Morris (see home page for details). Originally consisting of slots for two members at a time this was opened up to allow a maximum of six members per slot (whilst observing appropriate social distancing), with three slots available per day.

Club social activities remain suspended for the time being.

Club members can now post items on the new ‘For Sale or Wanted’ page in the Members area.

Last Sunday (21st July) the club held it’s Annual Summer Barbecue, at the Club Flying Field, fine weather encouraged a record attendance. For more info please see Brian Cobb’s article in ‘Latest Posts”

The last club night on February 12th featured a talk on model aircraft by Jim Newberry, from Nuviation, (a local company who sell laser cut model kits). Jim also brought along some of his models and showed a video.

This event was held, as usual at the Blue Lias Inn, Stockton

For information on future events please see the What’s On section.

The first Club night of 2019 was held on Tuesday 8 January with a talk by Peter Iliffe on Miniature Flying Aircraft.

2018

Following the club AGM on the 11th December, the new fees for 2019 are shown in the Club Information section of the website.
These need to be paid before flying in the New Year, and any fees not paid by 31st January 2019 the member will be deemed to have resigned.

Anyone wishing to pay by bank transfer should contact the treasurer to obtain the bank details of the new club business account.

Notice from Paul Morris to confirm that the exemption for flying models of 250g – 7kg has been passed by the CAA, so therefore flying as normal for the moment.

The BMFA has announced that the Midland Area has a new website, www.midland.bmfa.org to which WMF members can subscribe and receive news automatically.

The club has produced it’s Privacy Notice to explain how it will handle member’s data.  This has been necessary in order to comply with new legislation due to come into effect in May.  The Policy Notice can be found in the Club Information section of these web pages.

For those that have not seen it, the BMFA have produced an excellent booklet on LiPo batteries.  It is well worth reading even for those who are (or think they are) familiar with these batteries. Click here to open.

If you are interested in learning to fly or receiving some training or some help setting up your Transmitter / receiver / AS3X / plane then click on this link and complete the form to help us understand your needs.  There is also a training page and training etiquette page in the Flying Information section.  Please note: this is only available to Club members.  Non-members should apply to join first.

If you provide me with pictures of your planes I can produce your own page / add them to your existing page.  Photos and dates of maiden flights are also welcomed.  Please send them to me for inclusion.  Ideally the original unedited photos should be sent.  Some basic information about the plane is also required (see other existing pages for typical info)
